03: Here comes Tina Turner Africa Live 2014 Big Cats

Africa live photography blog

Welcome to the latest entry from Africa Live!

We continue on with the clouds and flatter light, working more and more with form and behavior. A great encounter with an absolute brute of a crocodile really made the day for me personally as we were able to get safety within a few meters of him on foot and was just jaw dropping to be near to such size and power.

The 80-400 continues to perform and impress, I am hoping for some good light later in the week to test it with, but is holding it’s own in the low light conditions we are presented with at the moment.

I have also switch over to the D800 as my primary camera now, reaching for the D3 only when I absolutely must have the frame rate rattling away. It continues to be a hugely flexible camera that can cater for almost any situation.

He was keen, but as you can see the feeling was NOT mutual!

The last from the sequence taken is some truly appalling lighting conditions. It still amazes me we can now work in this light with modern cameras. It wasn’t long ago the cameras would have stayed firmly in the bag.

We continued on to check out the rest of the (Marsh) pride and found them all relaxing not far away from the two lovers..

More work with shape and form. The flatter light really makes you think about shooing specifically for B&W.
