Little Owls Gallery Live

Hi all. Just quick update to highlight a new gallery added to the portfolio page.

A long overdue update on my UK work, starting here with the amazing Little Owl. Great fun to watch them from the hide and a very, very tricky challenge to get them in flight as they are small and, similar to Puffins, little rockets! This was my first full on shoot with the new Nikon D500 and it delivered massively on the performance front. Making good use of that buffer and especially the new focus processing. 90% of the shots here are with the D500 with the D800 used on a few of them.

View the gallery on the portfolio page or simply click an image below to start browsing. I hope you enjoy. If you have any questions/comments please do let me know in the comments below, over on facebook or on the twitters, I love to hear back from you all.

I hope you enjoy…

  1. Hi Richard,
What a fantastic variety of images, so many different methods used.
I’m going to Elliot’s place next week & wondered if you had to pre-focus for the landing shots or whether the AF system was fast enough on the D500 to grab focus in flight? I have the D500/D5 & I know the AF system is great but it would have to be incredibly good to lock on these fast moving owls!
Also, I’m guessing you set considerable negative compensation to darken the background on your backlit images?
Any words of advice would be greatly appreciated.
    Once again, fantastic images.
    Andy
